A new 'spin' on a very ancient tool, the Spinner is easy to learn, and works well in confined spaces such as your car or on airplane flights. Create thick or thin yarns in a variety of fibers easily... and change projects merely by changing your shaft! The spinner has a handle that is rotated to spin the shaft piece. As the shaft spins, twist enters your drafted yarn. Yarn is stored on the shaft - yes, the part that spins! A great thing about this spindle is that it can't be dropped -- you are always holding onto the spindle whorl, so it can't pull away like other spindles do when the yarn is undertwisted. The Spinner is handcrafted by John Rakestraw, using hand tools in recognition of this being an ancient tool. Each Spinner is individually made and tested. A variety of woods are used for the handle and its knob. The knobs are commercially made in a variety of woods; the handle is walnut, oak, or cherry doweling as available.
