Works with windows XP/ versatile/ can eliminate all cons with slight work.

Pros: ease of use /utility on win XP see above.
Cons: minor cons almost all can be worked around with no MOOLA involved see above.
The Bottom Line:
WORTH EVERY PENNY FOR WINDOWS XP
A+ / works with windows XP/ minor drawback PROS CONS
Hi this product is definitely worth something for someone with Windows XP and who is a
networking novice looking for an easy way to wirelessly print/wireless routing/ wireless
sound streaming.
PROS:
Ok, some background on this product. I bought this for 119$ CAD/ ~99$USD new at Bureau en Gros.
(Bureau en Gros is what Staples/Office Depot is called in French Canada), so the price
was not unreasonable. Now, the product comes bundled with Apple Airport express utility software and
something called Apple Bonjour software for windows XP to control the wireless printer. NOTE if you buy
airport express and it does not come with Apple Bonjour printer software just download it for free from Apple.
My printer (Cannon i560) and my DSL (Bell Sympatico ) were in the same room so I decided to use 2/3 possible
functions by hooking up dsl and my usb printer to the device. Presto, in under five minutes I configured the wireless
router and printed something wirelessly, five minutes (and that includes ripping the plastic baggy off). !!!!!! Coudos Steve
Jobbs. I brought my airport express to my living room and and I was able to stream music from my adator to my stereo
using Itunes and selecting "Apple airport" on the bottom right of the screen. A monkey could use this device. For novice
users who have for example a linksys wireless router in their house, you can use this device just as a print server stand
alone or if you want to keep it in the office in the day time ( using wireless printer only or wireless printer/wireless internet)
unplug it and use it to SURF AND STREAM you might run into problems ( that is fixable but takes slight computer
knowledge).
CONS:
Ok most of these are minor, but some really suck.
1. There is one Ethernet jack on the device ( so you cannot mix and Ethernet computer to you wireless network).
Solution #1: Buy a wireless adapter and make you desktop wireless for 50 ish CAD.
Solution #2: If you are like me keep you linksys router for internet and keep your apple airport for wireless printing only
( no adjustment required-just make sure that you either install just the Bonjour wireless print only or make sure
that the airport software connects directly throught a dsl connection even though you may use wireless with
a linksys router. The idea being that you do not want it to connect with the linksys router which will cause
problems until you do minor fixes on the linksys router firmware. (fimrware=the software that somes with
your router).
2. YOU CANT SURF AND STREAM AT THE SAME TIME (unless................)
Solution# 1: Move DSL/CABLE modem close enough to your music device so that you can connect it to the apple airport's jacks, and do
the same with your printer or put big speakers in proximity to DSL and printer and all of them use the Apple Airport's jacks.
Solution #2: Buy a second airport express and use it only for streaming.
Solution #3: Buy an Airport Extreme and connect the Aiport Express to it.
Solution#4: IF YOU HAVE A LINKSYS ROUTER and want to use to connect the airport express to it so that you can surf/print in the day unplug it
and surf/stream at night , the solution is a little more involved and you have to have to follow the instructions of the following website:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060609053254368
ACTUALLY BE WARY WHEN YOU DO THIS I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES TRYING TO GET TEH AE and linksys router to connect.
3. I can only stream music from Itunes, and nothing else like internet radio broadcasts/movies sounds in general.
Solution #1: Dowload a program called Airfoil from Rogue audio. http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
All in all this is a worth it investment adn the pros far far outweigh the cons and with a little work, you can eliminate all cons without spending any MOOLA :-)
