Having trouble...

Pros: Easy to use. Very convenient when you can't access to your PC.
Cons: As with anything, you're taking the chance!!!
The Bottom Line:
After what happened, I would rather bring extra memory cards than trust this device...
First of all, I got an ipod and this connector for a 2 week trip that's coming up. I was looking at a Photo Storage Device such as the one from epsons to store photos, and figured ipod is cheaper and will do alot more than just store pictures.
Camera connector is a little device you attach to your ipod on one end, and the camera USB cable to the other end.
Apple website has a compatible camera listed. I have Casio Exilim, and although it wasn't on the list, the website says if it has PTP function, it is compatible.
I took my chance, and it did work.
Before the trip that's coming up in few weeks, I went to my friends' wedding. It was busy around that time, so I figured I'll download the photos onto ipod instead of the PC and free up the memory card to take more pictures while my friends are still in town. (I only have 512MB card)
And I thought it would be a good practice before I actually use it for the trip.
I imported the photos twice. Everything worked fine.
It was really cool. We got to see the pictures on the ipod as soon as the import was done.
Before I bought this connector, I read few reviews, and I knew that it would kill the battery, and will have slow transfer time. I didn't really mind, because it's not like I'll be sitting there watching the ipod the entire time. So I let it import, went to do my thing, and when I came back to it, it was all done. So I don't exactly know how long it took, but it didn't seem that bad.
I charged the battery back up after it was done.
Once it's imported, it'll be under Photos, as "rolls" of photos.
THEN the 3rd time...
I connected the camera to ipod as usual. I let it do its work and walked away for a second. I came back to it, and noticed that the ipod was turned off.
I turned it back on, and ALL MY PICTURES WERE GONE!!!!!!!
The first half of the wedding pictures that were already on the ipod are gone... 2 rolls of about 50 pictures each.
For awhile, it didn't even let any more photos import. I just had to change my camera setting to PTP to take care of that problem, so it lets me import again.
But still, I lost half the pictures!!!!
WHERE DID THEY GO!?
Everything else (music, videos, etc) is still there. Just my pictures. I've been surfing the net to find the answers. Maybe I can retrieve it somehow??
It might have been my fault. Maybe the ipod needed to be fully charged before you use this. (It was about half full)
Even then, I would still use this product ONLY FOR BACKUP purpose, but I would not delete any pictures from my memory card even after they're imported to the ipod. After what happened, I can't trust it, especially if it's for a 2 week vacation.
UPDATE:
After I wrote the review, I connected the ipod to my PC, and the pictures were all still there!! Yeeeey.
I checked the ipod as Removable storage device, and the pictures were all there as one file per download.
So at this point, I'm still 50-50 about this connector.
After the little scare, should I still trust it?
