Pros: Great applications, Clear and bright screen, palm sized, customizable backgrounds, durable.
Cons: Battery life, position of charging port, limited dock space, WiFi is required for most applications.
The Bottom Line:
Although there are some cons, the pros obviously outweigh it, making the Apple iPod touch 3rd gen. a great product.
The Apple iPod touch 3rd generation is a great product for the price. It displays a clear and bright screen, and it fits perfectly in the size of your palm. The backgrounds are customizable to thousands of pictures at the touch of your fingertips. There are many GREAT free applications that are worth downloading and can hold your interest for hours. The screen is more durable then portrayed. It can be dropped many times hard surfaces from 5-6 feet and not crack the screen at all, although a rubber cover is advised just as a cautionary.
Although the iPod may be great it has some minor flaws, one of which is the battery life. The specs of the product say that it lasts for 4 hours playing videos, but they fail to mention that it is 4 hours on lowest brightness setting. Although obviously a higher brightness setting will drain battery quicker, the higher setting drains it tremendously fast. Within an hour of operation on highest brightness, your iPod will need to be recharged. Another con is the positioning and angle of the charging port. It is on the bottom, which is slanted inwards. This makes it difficult to plug in occasionally, and requires alot of fumbling. One of the less irritating problems is the limited dock space at the bottom of the screen. It only holds four apps, and while you can interchange them, there are more then four apps you may need at easy access. Once again, another less irritating feature is that Apple gloats about video streaming, and chatting with friends, but you have to have WiFi access for most everything. For example, you hear a good song and want to buy it on itunes? Well you can't unless your within WiFi range. This goes along with Mail, Maps, Youtube, Directions, Weather, the application store, iTunes, Stocks, and Safari.
Although there are some cons about this product, the pros outweigh them. In my personal opinion, the Apple iPod touch is a great product to purchase for the amount you pay.
