Don't Be Hard Headed...Get Hard Head!

Pros: Wonderful hold, nice smell, keeps hair shiny
Cons: Maybe a little pricey
The Bottom Line:
Finally...after years of searching and numerous disappointments, I've found the hairspray of my dreams. Thank you TIGI for the perfect product!
In the eternal quest for the perfect hair care products Ive tried many brands ranging from Aveda, Nexxus, and Matrix to Suave, Aussie, and Salon Selectives and everything in between. For years my favorite was a line of Aussie products but after apparently eliminating said favorite hairspray I was left with little choice other than finding something new.
So after a recent haircut, I asked for a suggestion about which hairspray would most probably serve my purposes. To preface the actual review I want to mention that I have disgusting hair. It isnt oily nor do I have a nasty case of dandruff. But what I do have is exceptionally fine; exceptionally thin hair (that also happens to stay healthy regardless of what I do to it in a vain effort to gain texture). Anyway, the girl who cut my hair suggested none other than TIGI Bed Head Hard Head hairspray. I was an easy sell one she mentioned it held well and it was easy to brush out. Not to mention the fact that (in her words) the smell is to die for. So for a mere $11.95 I was the proud new owner of a 10oz can of aerosol spray.
Even with the most expensive products I never hold my breath. It may seem to work for a few days or weeks but then soon my hair rebels. It refuses to behave and suddenly it decides to once again be lank, limp, and stringy. And the smell of any given hair styling aid makes no difference to me if it works. But what shocked me immediately about Hard Head is that it works wonderfully, just as Id hoped. And the price is minimal if you consider the pain and suffering I have to endure when most hairsprays make me look like a drowned rat or as though Ive been electrocuted. To make it even more appealing, I was also struck by the fact that indeed it does smell decently well (infinitely better than Aveda Firmata though not as good as the Salon Selectives line).
The directions for Hard Head are brief and easy to follow.
Hold 10 to 12 inches from hair and spray over styled hair or spot spray as desired. Layer Hard Head hairspray to increase firmness.
And believe it or not, but the process really is that obscenely simple. Style your hair and spray. Immediately upon spraying, youll notice that your hair has been locked in place without feeling sticky or hard. In addition, it looks good. Your shine will remain as will a great deal of bounce. Even better is the fact that Hard Head does not produce embarrassing flakes.
Hard Head is a strong though not particularly crunchy hairspray. If layered it does however become increasingly stiff. Though surprisingly both shine and bounce will remain even in the thinnest, most lank heads of hair. My hair is on the short side, and it works wonders. Friends who have used the product report similar findings on their thicker and longer tresses. The instantly drying formula is great for women on the run and for quick styles (like my own brief morning ritual) though it also is the perfect tool for evening up-dos.
I personally refuse to spend more than about 5-10 minutes on my hair after it is dry. You might say that Im a bit of a tomboy. So any product that makes this process even quicker is the perfect addition to my arsenal. In fact, I liked Hard Head so much that it prompted me to trash older and less functional products from those brands listed above. Ive finally found the hairspray Ive sought for many, many years.
The hip, trendy TIGI Bed Head line and Hard Head can be purchased at salons around the country. It has also recently been expanded to stores like Target and Meijers in addition to various online outlets. Despite the initially shocking price, Hard Head is an extremely worthwhile purchase. I cant imagine how I existed before stumbling on this truly magnificent, utterly incomparable hairspray.
