If Your Hair Simply Has To Stay Put--Hard Head by TIGI Bed Head!
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: The best hold I've ever found!!
Cons: Price, hard to find.
The Bottom Line:
I've never found better! The long-lasting, firm hold continues no matter the conditions I put it through. For hair that has to stay put, try Hard Head!
After a long, hard search for the perfect hairspray that began ages ago with my first bottle of Aquanet I can finally, finally rest. My answer to the perfect hairspray has been found in Hard Head by TIGI Bed Head. A fabulous all day performer that holds up to anything I've been able to dish out. If you can find it, grab it! You won't be sorry.
What Is Bed Head?-
Up until a short time ago, Bed Head by TIGI was a line of products sold exclusively at salons. They make all kinds of haircare products from shampoo and conditioners all the way to styling products. They seem to specialize in firm holds, wild styles, and how to get them. The packaging is hip, sleek and designed to catch your eye. Hard Head is one of a few of their products in a shiny, silver bottle, reminds me of a bullet.
Where To Find Bed Head-
Up until recently, TIGI products were only available at salons, though I have seen some of them at Drugstore.com. In the last few months, I have seen them at both Target and WalMart. Can coupons be far behind? I hope not.
The Hard Head hairspray is the one product that I've found hard to track down. Recommended by my hairstylist, but curiously not carried by them (or anyone else I could find) I had to track this down on the internet at a terrible website I decline to name until I can give it the scathing review it deserves. If I ever do come across this on a store shelf, I'm buying a truckload!
My Hard Head Use-
After my hairspray finally made it here, I was a desperate woman, down to my last drops of the emergency back-up hairspray that really isn't too great. My hair was flat, flat and the rainy season is upon us.
Directions (taken from bottle)-
To Use-Hold 10-12 inches from hair. Spray over styled hair or spot spray as desired. Layer Hard Head Spray to increase firmness.
That sounded just like any other hairspray I've ever used, so time to road test.
First Impressions-
Hard Head is a good sized bottle, 10 oz. or 283.5 g. The spray is the aerosol variety with a push button dispenser, and not the pump type that I've found tends to clog. This is just good 'ole fashioned hairspray. The smell is slightly chemical, but mostly pleasant and light. Not the gag-inducing fumes from the older brands.
Results-
Price, smell, and size aside, it really all comes down to results doesn't it? Does this hairspray do what it claims? Well let's see, it's claims (taken from bottle)-
Spray for relentless control and hold. Dries instantly. Be bold. Defy gravity. The more you use, the harder it gets.
They couldn't be more right. Hard Head does indeed dry instantly on your hair. It creates a slightly stiff, but not sticky bond. It doesn't take much for soft, everyday hold. For updo's or hair that is going to face wind and rain, I recommend a bit more, but again, the hold is indeed "relentless."
I do not recommend using this product on wet hair, I think that may be the Achilles Heel to Hard Head. When used on wet hair, the resulting look is the rather crusty, wet look that I generally am not going for.
I also want to add that since this is a very firm hairspray, a good deep cleansing shampoo to remove buildup is a good idea at least occasionally.
All In All-
I have tried countless sprays over the years, but none have come close to performing like Hard Head. Whether I use this alone for a soft look, or in tandem with gel for a more done "do" I have been immensely pleased with the results. If you can get past the initial price and are able to find Hard Head it's well worth a look.
