A Horror to my Lips!

Pros: None
Cons: Possible short term damage to lips. No pretreating instruction
The Bottom Line:
Please avoid and find something else. This carries potential dangers along with pain and possible short term damage to lip tissue.
I saw Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain online a few months back and decided that I needed to try it. I never liked the feel of regular lipstick and lip glosses etc would not hold on me as I am a smoker. I also found lip glosses to be to heavy feeling, don't like the smell of regular lipstick or glosses either and was not about to fiddle about with the new ''forever lip colours'' in a two part system format.
So, Benetint seemed ideal for me as I have already full pouty lips and only needed some color. Well, well right out of the gate day one I had a serious problem.
While this is easy to apply, for me I only sought light color, and hey applying one good sized drop to each lip seemed the ideal way to go for me. I did follow with a lip balm over top, a light all natural product, as after ten minutes I could feel my lips drying. Yes, drying they did. My lips dried and continued to hour after hour until they began to hurt. That was stage one.
I finally could stand no more after ninety minutes as they had dried so badly even with lip balming every 5 minutes that I went to wash it off. No luck. After washing I continued to apply lip balm for another 30 minutes when I noticed that my lips were peeling. Mind you, there is nothing on the package regarding this at all. After the 30 minutes I again tried to remove this with my make up remover lotion. Some of the color lightened, which was light to begin with, though the drying continued into the night while I continued to lip balm until bedtime. By now my lips had peeled skin from them.
I went to bed and awoke the next morning with another layer of my lip skin gone and some minor bleeding had occured in the night. My lips hurt and I could not smile. So myself and Benetint made a trip to my dermatologist. I was told I had not had an allergic reaction but that this reaction was in fact quite common! He had seen a number of others who had used this product and had the same happen to them. He explained that these stains were actually created for very short term use for things such as photo shoots and that the lips were PRE-treated beforehand most usually with food grade beeswax. While they would still produce a stain that way, they did not reach so deeply into the layers of lip skin and was easier to remove.
Whomever placed Benetint into the hands of the general consumer with no warning or pretreating instructions is mad in my opinion. I tired numerous times to contact the company via email, postal letter and telephone and to this day have not heard a word back.
