Great game, but mostly appeals to Star Trek fans.

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Great sound and voices, very clean graphics, keeps the Star Trek experience!

Cons: Some control glitches and annoyances with collisions. Some objectives aren't clear enough.

The Bottom Line:
This is a great game for sci-fi fans and especially fans of the Star Trek series! Great graphics and a good game experience.

Author's Review
I have had this game for a few days now and so far I have really enjoyed playing it. The game plays well, and has a lot of good aspects. I think it will mostly appeal to fans of the Star Trek movies and TV series though.

GAMEPLAY:
Star Trek Legacies plays very well. The game allows you free roam across the system you are currently playing in, allowing you plenty of room to retreat if necessary (and it will be). The ships control fairly well for their size, but when in combat situations you will most likely notice some annoyances when trying to turn sharply. The ships sometimes feel unresponsive when trying to take evasive action, and sometimes it seems like you just aren't in control at all. This usually doesn't last very long though, but is enough to be somewhat of an annoyance. There don't appear to be any collisions between ships, when you hit another ship they just bounce off each other like the Cruisin' USA days. Sometimes this gets annoying as well, as sometimes your somewhat incompetent AI comrades will stop in front of you and you will get stuck on them. Sometimes you will even run into the planets and they will start pushing your ship around them, which can cause major problems controlling your ship.

The combat system works well for the most part. The controls are easy enough to learn and switching between ships is a breeze. Sometimes the firing system seems a bit quirky. I have yet to figure out why the phasers and photon torpedoes sometimes will not fire when they worked perfectly well at the same distance/angle before. If you form a group with your other ships (this is easily assigned as well) they will generally follow your lead and attack the target you have selected, which makes it much easier to take down enemy ships.

This is a challenging game, the objectives are sometimes not very clear (as to how to complete them that is). Many times you will be outnumbered several times over, requiring some strategy and timing in how you use your ships.

GRAPHICS:
The game looks beautiful, all the ships are highly detailed, the ship's explosions and weapons effects look very nice. Sometimes when large objects explode, the pieces from it will be going through each other, which is has been a problem with explosions for a long time in video games. I'm not sure why that hasn't been fixed yet, but it detracts from the experience. The ships all have a realistic damage engine which shows damage right where the impact is. The atmosphere looks very nice also.

SOUND:
I definitely enjoy the sound in this game. All the sound effects sound like the genuine Star Trek sounds, and the voices are done using some of the actual actors. This definitely enhances the game experience and will be a delight to any Star Trek fan.

Overall, I would recommend this game to just about any sci-fi fan, and most definitely to Star Trek fans. This is one of the better Star Trek games available in my opinion. The few problems this game has are generally overcome by the good aspects and how fun it is.
