Pros: Sound Quality, bass, in ear comfort, symmetrical cord design
Cons: Price
The Bottom Line:
Although the price is steep, $99, these ear buds are well worth the price. My quest for an excellent pair of ear buds has ended.
Update: People need to know that this review is based on the newly remodeled Bose TRI-PORT in-ear ear buds. They have the zebra black and white cord and are priced about $20 higher (going for $99 at this writing) than the older Bose model - that's how you can tell the difference. Evidentially there were some problems with the old design that were eliminated by Bose. (Like the rubber tips falling off easily and the plug wasn't angled, etc.) I never owned the older model and can only speak of the newer ones...

Finally! Finally I have come cross some good ear buds!
I first tried 3 different pair of isolating ear buds $30 and under. JVC, Koss & Sony. One after another they didn't even come close to meeting my expectations. Those Sony Fontopia's...what a joke! Shame on Sony for putting out such a poor product.
I decided to throw some serious money at the situation to see if that would help. It did. As soon as I popped these new Bose Triports in, I could tell the difference in quality immediately. You want bass? YOU GOT BASS! It is a very warm and full sound that I immediately loved the first time I heard it. The bass, which was extremely lacking in the cheaper ear buds, is almost TOO much for these. Almost...but not quite. Any more bass would be too much, and if just a tad was taken away I wouldn't mind at all. But the way they come suits me just fine. But if you don't like a lot of bass in your music perhaps you should not even consider these.
Before I go any further I will acknowledge that I'm sure there are better pairs of ear buds out there, but I haven't the time, money or patience to try them all. This Bose pair that I have come upon, sounds great, so I will end my quest here.
These are not considered 'isolating' ear buds, and I consider that a GOOD thing. I really like how you don't have to squeeze them deep in your ear canal to get a snug fit. Each 'bud' seems about twice the size of the less expensive brands. When I first put them in my ears they felt a little bulky and as if they might fall out with too much head turning. But, they didn't. Using the default medium size rubber adapters I find these stay put in my ears even better than the isolating type. And they are FAR more comfortable. You can wear these ear buds for a long period of time before getting fatigued. And the cord is symmetrical! I don't what's going on in the brains of some of these companies making the left cord a lot shorter than the right. I like a symmetrical cord, myself.
I know $100 is a lot to pay for ear buds, but these sound 10 times better than the $25 Sony Fontopia's I tried last. You can really HEAR the quality with these. Instead of a cold, harsh, trebly sound, you get warmth and fullness. A very easy to listen to type of sound quality, especially for long periods of time.
