EXCELLENT, SIMPLE AND RELIABLE PRINTER
| Author's Rating: |

Pros: -easy to reset
-toner save
-high quality option
-beautiful prints
-mac compatable
Cons: -necessary network cable not included
-toner save defaults to off
The Bottom Line:
Simple, smart, good quality printer that works on my Mac network.
I've had this printer for 2 months. I've gone through 3 Samsung printers (1210, 1710, and 2010) all connected through my Airport Express wireless network. They all worked for varying amounts of time, and then started to get buggy, dropping off of the network, after a while. I then bought a Lexmark E120n and it similarly crapped out within a few months. These printers would all work plugged directly, but had trouble with the Airport network. They would all drop off the network. Then an HP 1005 did the same thing, and it would get remarkably fussy when it wouldn't print, requiring a reset of the printer and the mac. I'd also usually have to unplug the Airport Express so that it would recognize the printer on the network, cross my fingers, and away I go.
I don't know exactly what repeatedly caused these printers to "fall off" the network, all I know is that this Brother printer is a DREAM. It doesn't fall off the network because it has its own node. It's smart enough to know when it has failed (doesn't require an unplug and a reconnection to the network) and it is easy to reset (push and hold the big blue button until the green light comes back on). The quality is beautiful, and it has a toner save feature (although the default resets to toner waste after each print), and the bypass tray knows when you've put paper in it. You also need a network cable to set it up the first time, and I don't know why they couldn't supply one for the price -- seems like they cheaped out.
