Burnout is good but not the best racing game out there for PS2

Pros: You get the opportunity to drive like a maniac
Cons: Not really made for 2 player racing to get anywhere in the game
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this game, but not at the $50, $40, or even $30 price....if you can buy it for $20, you have spend wisely.
We bought Burnout as the very first game when we bought the PS2. My husband loves the game, he plays it day in and day out. I have played it many times and I am not thrilled with the 2 player mode of the game. Burnout is like most of the other games out there...you have to beat levels in the 1 player mode in order to further your progression and open tracks for the 2 player mode.
I love the excitement of driving in head on traffic and the crashes are crazy. However, after playing it over and over, doing the same thing day in and day out, it got boring fast. The only thing that kept me playing was the chance to beat the face off games to earn more vehicles. But, the vehicles you earn (like the Big Rig and the Bus) are a joke. They do not have the power to accomplish anything. They are large, on the other hand, to push your way through traffic, but not always.
Once you have earned those face off games and you get all your new cars...I don't feel that the game challenges you. Yes, you can still try to beat other groups of races, but you can do that with any racing game.
I give Burnout a 7 1/2 out of 10 on my score board. I did, however read an article from PS2 indicating that Burnout 2 will be released late fall 2002. I read the game overview and the new and improved features, it sounds more like a 10 game. I can't wait to find out.
