If milk and honey was good enough for Cleopatra...

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Smells lovely, leaves the skin soft.

Cons: Expensive, doesn't stretch very far

The Bottom Line:
A sweet smelling lotion

Author's Review
This is yet another of the products from my Burt's Bees starter kit, and one that I was really looking forward to trying, as it smelled delicious in the bottle - much nicer than any of the other products in the kit I had received.

The lotion states it is for normal to dry sensitive skin, which describes my skin type perfectly. It also states that it's so gentle that it can be used on your face, but I must admit I am not brave enough to try!

Burt's Bees products are made of mostly natural ingredients, with as few synthetics as possible, and each product has a little box on the label telling you just how natural it is. This one is 98.2% natural, which is good enough for me!

The lotion has an impressive list of ingredients. I wont go into them all (although if you really want to know they are listed on the Burt's Bees website), but I'll give you a brief idea of some of the things it contains, and what they do for your skin.

Beeswax - What Burt's Bees product would be complete without it? Beeswax does not absorb into the skin, therefore creates a protective barrier to lock in moisture and create a shield against the elements.

Non-Fat Dry Milk - We've all heard the story that Cleopatra used to bathe in milk, but it's still being used today in beauty products as it has soothing and moisturising properties for the skin.

Honey - Honey has antibacterial properties, so is great for spots or blemishes. It too is a great moisturiser as it retains water.

The body lotion comes in a pale yellow bottle with a white screw top lid and (like the Burt's Bees hand cream I used) shows a black and white picture of a cow on the front. Like most of the Burt's Bees packaging, I find this to be quite dull, and it certainly doesn't look like it was an expensive product, so if you like your luxury packaging, then perhaps this is something to bear in mind.

On applying the lotion, I found that it is the same colour as the bottle - a sort of dirty yellow, is the best way I can think to describe it! It's actually quite a runny consistency but is easy to rub in and absorbs quickly. I actually found that I had to use a lot more of this lotion than I would normally - probably about double the amount I was applying with my previous lotion, as it just didn't seem to stretch very far.

After application it does leave a slightly tacky film on the skin, but this will fade within about 10 minutes or so, and it's not too bad - for example you can get dressed without the fear of your clothes sticking to you!

The smell of this lotion is amazing, and is by far it's biggest plus point for me. As you can imagine being milk and honey scented, it is very sweet. It's in no way sickly, it's just a gentle honey fragrance - a very mild and soothing scent. If you like strongly scented lotions though, perhaps this won't be for you as it's quite a subtle fragrance - unless you get up close and sniff your skin you can barely smell the lotion once it's on, however, I don't always think that's a bad thing, as it won't interfere with any perfume you may put over the top.

In terms of moisturising this is very good. It feels light on the skin - I often feel some lotions are heavy and are clogging up my pores - and it left my skin feeling soft, supple and hydrated. Due to the size of my bottle and the fact I felt I needed to use quite a lot each time, I didn't get many uses out of this, but the few times I did use it, I did see an improvement in the condition of my skin, and it no longer felt dry or flaky.

The lotion costs £11.95 for a 236ml bottle and can be bought at Boots.com or from larger Boots stores. I do think that's expensive, and as I needed to use quite a lot for each application, I don't think I could really justify buying myself the full size bottle for every day use unfortunately, but this would be great as a treat now and again, or (if anyone I know is reading this!) as a present!!

So overall, I loved the scent of this and the way it made my skin feel moisturised and soothed. The only thing that would stop me from buying this again is the price, but otherwise it's a lovely product.
