Modern Warfare 2 (MW2), the game that really made the Call of Duty (COD) series really hit it big. By breaking the record for selling more copies in the first twenty-four hours than any other video game out there (except has now been passed by Call of Duty: Black Ops) has proven that it is an amazing game. "So why, other than the fact it broke the record for selling a lot, is it an amazing game?" you ask. Well, I'll tell you. You see MW2 has three divisions - campaign, special ops, and multiplayer.
The campaign is mostly about you trying to find and kill Makarov, but then a very surprising twist happens. While you go through the campaign you play as Joseph Allen (Task Force 141), James Ramirez (75th ranger regiment), and John "Soap" MacTavish (field commander of Task Force 141). It starts off with Allen in a training course "The Pit" where you prove yourself worthy to be in the Task Force 141 (TK141). A couple missions later Lieutenant General Shepperd asks you to be an undercover spy under Makarov to try and get some information, but Makarov knows who you are and kills you. Next you play a couple missions as Ramirez, a Private in the Rangers, and eventually end up as MacTavish when you find Cpt. John Price held captive in a Russian Gulag. Everyone is out to kill you and Price, and in the end you kill Shepperd and that's the end of the game. Over all it was a very thrilling campaign with a very good story (especially for a First Person Shooter).
Special Ops can be played either solo or co-op(or split screen if you want to use one console) and its broken up into 5 different categories which range form easy missions to hard missions. For each mission you can get up to 3 stars (3 stars obviously meaning the best it could be done) usually based on the time you did it in. To get past the first category you have to have certain amount of stars. The last category has not so traditional missions which involve anywhere from using snipers to kill Juggernauts (very big guys that are hard to kill) to using a thermal F2000 to pick off guys in smoke. I personally love this Spec Ops it's very addictive and it's especially fun to try to beat the Infinity Ward times for each mission.
Finally we come to Multiplayer, some people would say this is the most important part of a game, I don't know if I would agree with that but it's definitely what I spent most of my time on. In multiplayer you start off at level 1 and you play against real people on 5 or 6 maps until you get to level 70 (Since the game has come out there have been 2 map packs released that contain 5 or 6 maps each. These map packs can be purchased for 1200 Microsoft points each). Each time you level up you have access to more and more guns, equipment, and perks. Once you reach level 70 you have the option to show off your "Prestige" and go back to level 1, but you will have an emblem by your name so that people know you have reached level 70 and "Prestiged." You can prestige 10 times in MW2 and each prestige you get a different emblem by your name so people know how long you have been playing. Like I said earlier, this is the part of the game where I spent the most time. It's a very fun multiplayer probably one of the best I have ever played.
I would recommend this game to everyone, even if you're not a hard core gamer and die a lot, this game is fun to play.
