I received the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner as a gift for mother's day. I told my husband I wanted to convert all my old various size (4x6, 3x4, wallets and portraits) photo's to digital for sharing and permanent storage in case of fire. As he always does he started researching and purchased the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner. You can place up to 5 separate images in the scanner and it will auto crop and save them as individual photo's. I say photo's but it could be anything, business cards, receipts whatever will fit.

When I received the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner I immediately opened the box to get started. I already had a spot to put it but for those of you wondering it is large. 19.5 inches by 11 inches and about 2.5 inches tall. As a unitasker the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner does it's job beautifully, but it is a unitasker. I used to have an all in one print/ scan/ copier but for scanning photo's it was sub par. I for one am glad to sacrifice the space for the quality and ease of use and you can store it when not in use. The Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner was very easy to set up. A set up disc was included and has to be run before you connect the scanner. Set up was fast and easy. To attach the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner you will need an free USB port and an power outlet.
I was scanning away within 8 minutes!

If you are scanning multiple pictures with the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner you have to make sure you leave about a quarter of an inch between them. I only had one occurrence where it scanned multiple pictures as one image and that was when I was testing how far I could push it! I wish I could add some photo's I scanned to show you!

The  Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner comes with editing software but I use a program called GIMP so I cannot give any in-site into how good their software is. After scanning your pictures with the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner you can do some basic editing like cropping with out running it through the separate software. Imagine what you could do with all those photo's sitting in your attic!

I want to mention noise. Most scanners I have dealt with have been quite noisy. The Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner is very quiet! I didn't know when it was scanning until I paid attention. This is definitely a plus.

Another use for the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner as I mentioned earlier is copying store receipts. As we all know you need the receipt to return things but more importantly to honor warranties. Now days many stores use a thermal paper and the receipt is "burnt" into it. The only problem is over time the image disappears, faster if it is exposed to high temperatures, so you cannot laminate them! The Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner is the answer! Simply copy them all, label them and stick them in a file on your computer labeled receipts! Now they are easy to find and are not taking up a drawer somewhere degrading.

So with all the great things about the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner I am willing to sacrifice a side table to it's size! Yes, the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner is a unitasker, but you get quality.
