A scanner that gives excellent quality images, but only for "flat" documents

The Bottom Line: 
You can have quality images only for documents touching the platen. It is not recommended for documents with irregular/inclined surfaces, because it will render the elevated areas blurred.

I had to buy a new scanner to be able to scan my old family photos. Having used a Microtek Scanwizard scanner (forgot model) for about 5 years, I have been fully contented with it not until it had rendered "film-like line-colors" on the photos it scanned, probably because of its age.

When I bought this CanoScan LiDE 100, I was happy since I would be able to finish my project. I was able to scan photos in very high resolution (600 dpi). And it could automatically detect separate documents so you won't have to adjust the area to be scanned.

But later, I noticed that some images were blurred, pixeled, or distorted. When I checked the document in the platen, I realized the reason for its blurredness was that it was not lying flat touching the platen glass. I was quite disappointed since the photos were fixed/pasted in the photo album and I could not remove them without destroying the album.

Also, automatic detection of documents is sometimes inaccurate (Ex: when scanning a photo album, some parts of photos are automatically cropped)

CanoScan LiDE 100 scans images in very high resolution, and can preserve the details.  But it is great only for entirely-flat documents or those that are able to touch its platen glass. It is not good for scanning large or thick photoalbums and picture frames as the images will appear pixeled as long as they don't lie entirely flat on the glass.
