I changed from Nikon to Canon and I was shooting all pro glass fixed aperature zooms before the change. When I needed to purchase a telephoto I did'nt want a large bulky lens. The 70-200f/4L fit my need.

The 70-200 f/4L is a great alternative to the 2.8 lens because it is smaller, lighter and not to mention about half the price. You only lose 1 stop and it yields very sharp results. I use this lens for portrait work as often as I can.

The build quality is excellent and operates flawlessly. The USM motor is quick and quiet. The lens has a focus limit switch on the barrel. On nice thing on Canon USM lenses, is the ability to manually adjust the focus while in auto focus. The zoom and focus rings are smooth. The feel is excellent. It comes with a hood and a nice pouch.
