The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle Canon L-series lens. It has been specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers. It features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo for even better image quality than the original EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. The circular aperture produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other features include internal focusing, a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor), and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing

2.8 Wide Angle is the way to go!

Pros: f/2.8, Great Clarity
Cons: Price, weight
So why do I like this lens... The most important thing about this lens is it's flexibility. A constant f/2.8 rocks. It's very difficult to make a zoom wide angle with such a low apature. The image quality is amazing and is really fun to shoot with on dark days or even at night. The lens is pretty big and heavy for it's range but with all those elements and the clarity you just accept it I guess. The lens takes some punishing blows through the years and seems to tough it out except for cosmetic scratches on the housing. This lens is probably my most used lens just because of it's flexibility. If you were to only have one lens in you kit... I think this should be it. The super wide shots get some distortion but what are you to do at 16mm? The price is pretty heafty at $1300 compared to the 17-40mm f/4 ($600) but it's f/2.8 is worth it in my opinion.
