If you have canon EOS this is a must have lens
Over the years I have shot Nikon, Minolta and Pentax. These choices have brought me to become a Canon user today. If you are serious about your SLR photography you will inevitably need to address the need for a lens in the mid range of the spectrum. Typically your choice comes down to whether to use a "normal" 50mm lens or go with the Zoom in this range. The debate raging between fixed focal or zoom lens is one for another discussion. Many manufacturers offer professional 2.8 speed lens for the Canon EOS mount. In my experience there is often little difference between the Camera manufacturers offering and those offered ny third party manufacturers. The Canon 28-70 L 2.8 USM lens is the exception. This lens has it heads and shoulders over any third party lens today. The build quality is outstanding and can only be matched by Tokina. The sharpness and contrast are outstanding but are only remotely matched by Sigma. The autofocus speed is swift and silent and has no match in the market today from a 3rd party offering. So what you have here is a rare combination lens which processes all the best features in one package. The good news is that you can still find this lens in great condition used and if you decide to buy it new you will still spend significantly less than the comparable Nikon Silent wave version. Canon has taken it lens technology to a point where they are currently offering the best combination of features and price in professional glass in the market today. Nikon has been trying to catch up with its silent wave glass but it has a long way to go. The 28-70L USM 2.8 ranks among the top two Canon professional lenses in the lower focal range. If you need zoom in this range and shoot Canon I would strongly recommend this lens.
