Pros: Light, fast processor, excellent performance, full compatibility.
Cons: Too many accessories for my budget
The Bottom Line:
Canon hit another home run with the latest Digital Rebel.
I bought the T1I as an upgrade from my previous Digital Rebel and EOS 10s. Compatibility with my existing 28-135is and 75-300is lenses was a given, and I added the brilliant Canon 10-22 ultrawide zoom to my kit. After 3 weeks of hiking around Australia and New Zealand, I couldn't be happier with the camera. The autofocus is nearly instant, the low-light performance is fantastic, and the built-in flash cycles quickly. The button layout's been simplified to the point that everything is immediately available, from exposure control and focus control to manual ISO selection. I frequently shot at ISO 3200 due to low-light conditions, and was never disappointed. Very little 'noise', and I got some excellent evening and predawn images. The 'night portrait' mode, which couples the flash with a long exposure for the background produces some dramatic pictures, and works particularly well with moving water in the background.
I compared the 10-22mm Canon ultrawide to the less-expensive Tamron and Sigma ultrawide zoom lenses, and it wasn't a close call. If you're tempted to save a couple of hundred with an an offbrand ultrawide, do yourself a favor and go to a camera store for a side-by-side comparison.
In 3 weeks of active shooting, I never came close to the capacity of the 16gb memory card or battery, but I offloaded the card and weeded out the culls and recharged the battery every couple of days. The BG-E5 vertical grip is a nice addition, but for me, it was overkill. Most of the time it just added weight to my travel kit, and I never needed the extra battery capacity or AA adapter.
