Great Little Camera

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: It's  tough camera and takes high quality pictures.

Cons: The reaction time is a little slow compared to my digital SLR.

The Bottom Line:
For an underwater camera, this one offers flexibility, durability and excellent photos.

Author's Review
This is a great little camera. I bought it for a recent cruise because I wanted a waterproof camera I could use at Stingray City in Grand Cayman and at the Falls at Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

It has a 3X optical zoom and takes 12.1 megapixel pictures. I have printed as large as 8X10 and had no issues with excess noise. The colors are true and vivid and the pictures are sharp.

The camera has several settings to choose from. It has auto settings that include a variety of programs - Underwater, which works very well; aquarium I haven't used much but the few times I have used it, it worked okay. It also has foliage, snow, portrait, landscape, night snapshot, kids and pets, fireworks, sunset, indoor, long shutter and beach settings. It also has several manual settings for the more advanced user.

I have used all of these. Most of the settings worked quite well except for the fireworks setting. The fireworks came out better when I used the ISO3200 setting.

We took the camera on the cruise and used it in underwater situations, on the ship, and on various shore excursions. It worked great in almost all situations.

I took underwater pictures of stingrays at Stingray City in Grand Cayman and the photos were professional quality. I was very pleased with the quality of all of the photos - underwater, on shore and night or day.

The reaction time of the processor is a little slow compared to my Canon Digital SLR and I missed some shots of dolphins jumping outside of our balcony. I think if I had set it on the multiple shot setting this might have been a little better.

I took some excellent night shots of the castle and various parades and Christmas lights. They all turned out great - except for those that had operator issues.

The buttons are ergonomically placed and fairly easy to use. The wrist strap can moved to any of the four corners of the camera which is nice in some ways but I don't care for the way it attaches. The wrist strap hooks into a loop that uses a plastic snap attachment. I haven't had it come off but it doesn't feel secure to me.

In summary, I have used my Canon Digital Waterproof camera in various settings and I have been very happy it's overall performance.
