The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend this camera just because other better cameras are available at a better price than this camera.
The PowerShot SD1400 IS is very small, only 3.6 x 2.2 x 0.7 inches, with a weight of 4.7 oz . According to Canon, it is the thinnest PowerShot to date. Even though it is small, it is sturdy, with a body that's mostly metal. The SD1400 IS is tapered at the sides and all controls are recessed to allow the camera to easily slide in and out of a pocket. The functions are easy to use. The camera body houses a 4x optical zoom lens, unlike other cameras that I have used that hold up to 12x optical zoom. It is not the best of cameras but can be used as great gift for some one in need of a camera. The camera has a 2.7 in LCD screen that clearly shows the details of each picture. This camera could also be used to record videos. The thing about this camera is that you can choose three different qualities for recording a video all at 30 frames per second. If you want to record a movies in HD the maximum movie length is 10 minutes which i find disappointing, but in other modes the maximum movie length of one hour. Overall I would give an average rating for this camera and I wouldn't recommend this camera because you would be able to get better cameras for a better price shown above.
