INTRO:
I bought the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS for myself. I wanted a camera that was small, had good battery life, and shot video. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS is all three.

SIZE:
At 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches and less than 3/4 of an inch wide the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS fits perfectly in pockets, purses and bags without being cumbersome or heavy.
I have had very good luck with the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS the battery life is good for hundreds of pictures, even with the flash. Only once have I had the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS die on me and that was because I did not put the battery on the charger after the last time I used it.

VIDEO FEATURE:
The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS shoots HD video in 720p. Of course you can change this in the settings if you don't need the benefits of HD video. The audio quality of the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS is decent, the same quality as any of the camcorders I have ever owned. I have not noticed any static or crackling as I have in other hand held cameras I have owned that also did video. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS only seems to shoot video up to 10 minutes in the HD mode. Not completely sure why this is and it is a bit annoying. Just remember if you need more than 10 minutes you may not want to bring the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS. If you are often taking videos for media sharing sites then the ten minute cap makes it easy to upload.

PICTURE QUALITY:
Now on to the picture quality of the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS is a 12.1 mega pixel camera. This is great for pictures you wish to print, crop or enlarge. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS has a wide angle lens which is both good and bad in my opinion. It creates excellent nature scenes and cute big headed pet pictures but seems to make humans a little "larger" as well. I find that the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS auto feature is not as intuitive as I would like especially in low light and action. By playing around with the cameras settings you can still get good pictures. With the 4x optical zoom you can still get closer to things but not at any significant distance. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS does take excellent macro photos. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS also has some interesting features, like the ability to take pictures that are black and white with the exception of a chosen color. With this you can create some very memorable photos. My favorite is of my son cuddling his blue blankie, everything black and white but the blue blanket and the blue of his eyes.

SD CARD:
One other thing I would like to mention is the SD card. The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS uses standard SD cards and will accept SDHC cards up to 32GB which is what I am using. I have read people having problems with their videos because of the "speed" of SD cards they were using. When I first bought my Canon PowerShot SD940 IS I was using a 4GB class 2 SDHC card. After getting choppy and stuttering Video I found you must not use an SD card with a class less than 6.

CONCLUSION:
The best camera you will ever own is the camera you always have ready. Because of it's convenient size and powerful battery, the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS is the best camera I own. It may not take the best pictures ever but at least I have memories I may not have otherwise.
