Pros: AWESOME HD video quality! Wider angle lense. Better for macro and inside photography. Strong flash.
Cons: SMALL! Can be easy to misplace. Somewhat difficult to navigate its on-screen menu.
The Bottom Line:
Highly recommend for the beginner or intermediate photographer due to ease of use and cost.
Solid camera that is ideal for the photographer that wants quality images, but does not want to lug all the equipment to do so.
Bought this camera because a coworker had the SD760. Love its compact size and wider angle lense than the SD760 for shooting around the home.
Loyal Sony user in the past, but this Canon SD960 has won me over for the point-and-shoot cameras and video quality. No need to carry point-and-shoot AND video cam...this does it both! The HD video provides impressive clarity.
The software is NOT proprietary as with Sony. Easier to edit the video than other manufacturers.
MANY settings for the variety of reasons a photographer incurs.
Was able to purchase additional battery on eBay (with shipping!) for only $2.85! Great battery life also. Particularly if you don't review every picture you shoot.
LOVE the self-timer. Will take up to 3 repetitive photos with timer instead of just 1 like most cameras. Very useful particularly if taking photos of kids.
Takes standard memory card unlike Sony also. Much less expensive. Recommend getting 4GB or greater capacity card if using the video feature frequently. Eats up memory quickly. Don't shoot at the highest 12MP setting, keep it at 5MP or lower.
