When you're ready to experience a higher level of pace-setting technology and image brilliance, the PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH is ready for you. One glance at the sleek, sculptured profile, and you know this is a camera driven by design and features. The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH has 3.7x optical zoom. A zoom opens up a world of possibilities in your photography. With many cameras, hand-held shots taken at the long end of the zoom can be marred by blur. The SD990 IS Digital ELPH incorporates Canon’s exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer. The technology detects and effectively cancels camera shake, for clear, sharp images every time.

Pros: Simplicity, design, endurance, options, style, feel, Speed, durability.
Cons: Download free Apple quick-time (r) if you want to hear sound from your movies (.mov)
The Bottom Line:
I couldn't add a single feature except HD video.
Easiest to use, highest quality photos, vivid and accurate colors. This camera does everything you could ask for in the small package. You can confirm the rest by reading the other reveiws, but what I like most is the short start-up time and short time between shutter button press and shutter release. Generally, when the moment comes to take a snapshot, I am anxious and need the camera to respond quickly. This camera performs very well. About 1.7 seconds from power-up to shutter release. That is a hugh improvement. Optical zoom at 3.7X is great with sacrificing clarity. Image stabilization under zoom and low light is a hugh improvement. Durability: I dropped the camera twice and it still performs. A great quality in a camera I take hiking, biking and use for work. And sometimes loan to my kids.
You have to download the free Apple QuickTime application if you want to hear the sound from your movies (.mov files). The literature makes no reference to this.
I have owned Canon cameras for years now and each progression gets better without deleting anything from prior. I take in large photos and crop them in nearly every shot. While the 14.7 seems like a lot, it allows you to zoom and crop and maintain great clarity.
Get at least a 1GB film card (500 shots) not included and get the PSC-55 case about $20 online. The case is a custom fit.
