When you're ready to experience a higher level of pace-setting technology and image brilliance, the PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH is ready for you. One glance at the sleek, sculptured profile, and you know this is a camera driven by design and features. The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH has 3.7x optical zoom. A zoom opens up a world of possibilities in your photography. With many cameras, hand-held shots taken at the long end of the zoom can be marred by blur. The SD990 IS Digital ELPH incorporates Canon’s exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer. The technology detects and effectively cancels camera shake, for clear, sharp images every time.

Very poor Cannon 980IXUS , over rated

Pros: None, taking it back, staying with the 10 times Optical Kodak 4 meg.
Cons: Poor picture quality the moment you zoom beyond 2 times, camera slow to process.
The Bottom Line:
Poor image quality when using any zoom, slow to process images, 2 plus seconds till shutter is ready for next shot. Sorry i bought it.
Cannon IXUS 980IS is overpriced, overrated, full of features that if you need to use them all you may as well get a SLR. The 980IS is poor on picture quality and speed of processing 2 plus seconds till you can take the next picture, it delivers clear pictures only at almost zero zoom or very low zoom like 2 times, forget 3 times zoom and beyond, grain poor whites and lack of detail and colour tone etc is unacceptable its no better the a cheap 2 meg phone camera image quality, I have tried one in the shop and the one I bought and they are both the same.
I am taking mine back, I found the speed to upload the images so annoying and is no better in the real world than the IXUS 7, when you cut the 980 back to 7 meg from 14.7 it a fraction of a second faster than the IXUS 7, the 980 lens is not capable of dealing with anything that's not immediately in front of you, it is very challenged unless its perfect light and conditions, i run it only on Auto and standard factory settings, mind you I am a SLR D300 Nikon user, my Ixus 7 dose 95% of what this 980IS unit dose as far as picture quality is concerned, Kodak 10 times optical zoom 6 megapixel and the old 4 megapixel camera all at less than half the price for picture quality leaves the 980 Cannon for dead on a 1 to 1 shoot out, I am very disappointed in the unit and the expert reports which where very much wrong, basically don't use the zoom or the picture quality becomes progressively and disgustingly poor, camera is slow to process image, it is no faster than the IXUS 7, I am using high end HD Sandisk extreme 3 - 30 mps card and a the one that came with it. I am sorry i bought it and will stay with the Ixus 7, and for quality shots Kodak 6490 old 4 meg 10 times optical zoom and of coarse the Nikon D300.
