It's red, it's delicious but not an apple

Pros: Subtle, intimate, one your usual floral oriental
Cons: Too subtle, unobtrusive, short - lasting
The Bottom Line:
A subtle oriental floral fragrance that is cross between Davidoff Echo and Kenzo Flower
Launched: 2006
Classification: Floral oriental
I discovered Red Delicious when I was looking for a floral oriental perfume that wasn't too heavy or over powering, but fresh and a bit fruity.
The packaging
Red Delicious Night is the second addition to the DKNY Delicious range and is packed in a deep red box that has DKNY written across stapled with the familiar label which this time reads 'Red Delicious'.
The box contains the same apple-shaped bottle as Be Delicious the upper half is metallic and has a press-in atomizer hidden on the surface. The lower half is made of bright red glass that lets the liquid shine through.
The fragrance
Top notes: apple, lychee, champagne accord
Immediately after spraying, the first rich and tangy notes that appear remind me of apple, but not quite red apple. It is a type of crisp, sharp and green one. The sweet note of the lychee unfolds next, very distinct despite the powerful apple but this lychee is far less sugary than the same fruit in Emporio Armani Diamonds.
Middle notes: rose, violet leaves
After about an hour when the fruitiness subdued, the heart started to resemble Kenzo Flower only it was a lot more discreet. Its velvety, creamy violet notes mingled with some tartness that reminded me of the woody raspberry leaves in Davidoff Echo.
The rose notes were also more watery and green rather than floral. The overall impression was mellow and subtle with a hint of greenness and a tiny oceanic freshness in it.
Base notes: patchouli, vanilla, amber
Only after 4 hours the fragrance had largely evaporated, though I felt compensated for the fact that it now felt transparent and clear to me. It stayed close to the skin and felt like mirroring it.
It wasn't overly sweet, but not too dry either. There were no heavy clouds of vanilla or powdery patchouli like in most orientals. I smelt some amber thought it felt vegetal and had a slight green tone. Overall, a subtle and woodsy drydown that stayed close to the skin.
Conclusion
Red Delicious is like a young flower that is not yet in bloom. Its exotic start and the somewhat sweet but dominantly green heart make this fragrance different from other floral orientals.
Its 3 to 4 hour staying power is poor for an eau de parfum, and because its base doesn't have a sillage chances are it will react with and reflect your own skin chemistry.
If you're looking for an unobtrusive, fresh oriental, Red Delicious could be your fragrance.
Composition: 3 / 5
Originality: 4 / 5
Staying power: 2 / 5
Overall value: 3 / 5
