The Dyson Slim DC18 is suitable for all floor types, and weighing just 6.6kg is a good choice for older people or for carrying up lots of stairs. Its flexible steering and narrower width also makes it easy to clean tight spaces. The direct-drive motorised brush bar sweeps the dust and fibres trapped in the carpet pile, into the constant Dyson airflow, and further helped by the Root Cyclone™ technology, which picks up large volumes of dust, without loss of suction. And with no bags or filters to replace, it’s low on running costs. The DC18 has also been given the British Allergy Foundation’s seal of approval, as this Dyson is approved for all allergy sufferers. A Linebacker on Jenny Craig

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Lighter, smarter, powerful, convenient, well-built

Cons: I find this machine to be about perfect!

The Bottom Line:
In my opinion...the best Dyson EVER!

I am a HUGE Dyson fan and I am an even BIGGER fan of this SMALLER wonder.  Dyson really hit the nail on the head with the Slim.  There is no dip in power, there is no shortage of convenience, there just aren't any compromises to be made with a smaller machine.  I wouldn't call it a "light weight", however; it is quite a bit lighter than the standard Dysons.

What really makes this machine shine is the motorized brushroll.  Previously, other Dysons powered their brushrolls with the main vacuum motor and a clutched belt/pulley system.  Many of the new models, including the Slim, utilize a separate electric motor to drive the brush.  This truly helps make the brush roll more aggressive and more thoroughly groom the carpet.

Without a decrease in suction and an improved brushroll, the Slim should clean better...right?  RIGHT!!!  The Slim is very nimble and it articulates around corners and obstacles with aplomb.  The cleaning head is lower profile and it can reach partway under your furniture.  The vacuum doesn't lie flat enough to go completely under your furniture...but it will reach a good 5 inches under.

The Slim surely features the quick-draw wand/hose system to make above floor and attachment cleaning a breeze.  On board, you'll find an upholstery brush and a combination crevice/dusting brush tool.  The suction is quite potent and easily gobbles up whatever lays in its path.  To clean bare floors, the power brush comes with an off button, which is located right next to the main power switch, so you can turn the brush on or off as you see fit.

The cord is just about 25-feet, which is a good length, however; other Dysons have longer cords.  The hose is a high quality stretch hose and will reach a good distance away from the body of the machine...without tipping over.  The DC18 runs with a quality higher pitched whine...which some have said gets annoying, however; I don't find the noise bothersome whatsoever.

The canister is smaller than other Dyson models, lending to its smaller size and will therefore need to be emptied more frequently.  The washable filter is super simple to locate and wash and of course you don't TOUCH the HEPA unit so there are no running costs to the machine except for the electricity it uses while you use it.
