Makes a Great Shop Vac, too!

Pros: Quiet. No bags! No clumsy filters! Compact.

Cons: Wand is very large in diameter. Canister fills quickly. Expensive

The Bottom Line: 
No bags, quiet, very flexible hose, this is an excellent vacuum for the home, or in my case, the shop.  And it works as advertised!

I have a woodworking shop in our basement.  While my dust collector collects the fine dust from each tool, it does not get the dust /shavings from my drill press or lathe or the dust that falls on the floor.

I have had shop vacs and while they do a good job, they SCREAM and the filter can leak/fall off causing the machine to blow dust.  I decided to try the Dyson.

The Dyson picks up the sawdust and is extremely quiet. The unit comes with the standard attachements.  I use the power head on the floor, the upholstery brush on the machines and the regular floor attachement for tight places around the machines.  I have to be carefull not to pick up small pieces of wood as they can get stuck in the wand (thank goodness for my electrician's snake).  I usually empty the canister 3-4 times I clean (I am a woodturner and turning creates a LOT of shavings).

I find the canister rolls very easily and the hose is a very nice length. I would like a longer wand, though.  The cord is plenty long enough, although I do have to move the plug to be able to clean the whole room (approx 21 x 30 ft).

While this is not the intended use of the machine, I highly recommend the Dyson canister as a shop vac. It also works great for it's intended use of cleaning carpets.
