Pros: Excellent color rendition. Super easy to use. No crap-ware in the installation software package.
Cons: No place to store the CD insert tray. Large footprint on the desk.
The Bottom Line:
Wonderful printer, highly recommended for it's print quality, color rendition and ease of use
Excellent quality prints and incredibly easy CD and DVD printing. This printer has all of the color management quality of the earlier Epson 1200 series with better quality, longer lasting inks. It produced prints with better archival quality than the 1270 and 1280. I bought it to print on CDs and DVDs for a volunteer project I work for and it does the most amazing job on them. You simply produce your artwork in the CD creator software. It's very easy to use. Then you set the CD holder in place on the printer. Line it up and insert your CD or DVD and print. The print is aligned perfectly every time. The color is quite good, but because the coatings on the CDs and DVDs are not produced by Epson you do not get EXACT color matching like you do with the Epson papers and ink together. But it is very nice either way and not having to peel and stick labels on the CDs is a dream come true for me. No wrinkled paper and having to peel it off and start again. I love it for this feature alone, but the color quality on the Epson paper is amazing. I'm a professional photographer and I'm anal about color rendition. This printer really delivers. You do need to follow the Epson color management process though to really realize this color matching. It's got a bit of a learning curve but oce you learn it it will become second nature to you. the 1400 alos prints edge to edge so you can make some beautiful 4.25 x 5.5" photo note cards and things like that. It's a work horse too. Not a wimp like some of the other printers I have used from Canon and HP. Also Epson does not stack on the crap-ware with their software. You only get what you need to get great quality prints, not a cumbersome package of junk to slow down your computer at every turn like HP gives you. I also have two Epson 2200s and have used several other Epsons and a Canon and an HP printer as well over the years. Epson is still the industry leader for print and color matching quality by far.
