In Guild Wars, you play as a hero from Ascalon, your typical fantasy province that's fallen on hard times, thanks to relentless assaults from fearsome creatures called the charr. Ascalon seems huge and wondrous as you begin to explore it and its outskirts. But it turns out to be literally just a tiny portion of the richly detailed and shockingly gigantic world of Tyria, which you'll explore during the course of an adventure that's truly epic. Meanwhile, the other half of the game consists of competitive battles between teams of players, set in various types of arena events. Minimize

Great Game for the Busy D&D'er

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Price! NO Monthly fees! Great art and music. Rewards for growing characters. Holiday events!

Cons: Requires interaction. Limited to 20 levels per character. Easily spend lots of time on it.

The Bottom Line:
Ease of play for a D&D style adventure game. Not overly complicated and I can start/stop when I want. Great background and score. Love NO ADDITIONAL FEES!

Author's Review
Did you like D&D but can't find anybody to play? Do you have random hours that you are free but hard to find a decent group of people to play with? Do you like 'adventure/quest' games but don't like the idea of shelling out bucks each month for a subscription?

Enter GUILD WARS!

Even though you SEE MODULAR packs out there, they all stand alone. You could install one pack and play and enjoy a great game. Like the other reviewer did. Cool. But when you join two packs together, you will really encounter a WIDER WORLD to explore!

The Packs are as follows:
GuildWars(Regular)..the basic is standard wizards/warriors & ogres 6 choices of classes to use.
Guildwars Factions:..Same six but additional 2 classes to choose from. This setting is very ASIAN look and storyline.
Guildwars Nightfall: Yep, 6 basic classes with two specific for that pack. This time, Egyption/African styled story and characters. Truely Black characters.

OH.ART..man if you like to VIEW a very wonderfully drawn landscape, take a look inside some of the buildings. Drawings/Tapestries and just general architechture is simply awsome! This "world" wasn't just slapped together. Music for background is very nice and the company that was contracted for the score is also able to sell you the music also. That's a benefit for me. Finally, Costumes for all characters are VERY sweet. I would love to have the abiltiy to purchase or make my own robes/outfits for me personally if not for some of my lady friends.

OK..back to game. You don't have to worry about being on some silly quest with the same friends who can't get together. You can bring 'henchmen' along and for the most part..you can use them well. Later as you develop, the makers of the game have improved the Henchies too!

I frequently can play for 2-4 hours but have to wait weeks..no problem, I can come back with no effect to game play. It's simple enough to let me pick up when I want and get right back to playing. It does help to do marathon sessions but not needed. I'm 39 going on 15 again and I like that with my scatter-brained mentality I can actually do well with this game.

I do wish you could have a MEGA LARGE list of friends but it's ok with what it has. I frequently help others or they help me and I do get to play with them again later.

OH I forgot price. It's the same $50 for each module but sometimes there is a sale. No biggie. What I do like, is that when you pay for the module.THAT's IT! unless you count your full speed internet connection. World of Warcraft (Good game) with it's $70 a year price tag after the price of the game $50 is too much for my tastes. Whether you play or not..it's still charging you.

When you play in groups, each time you adventure, you get a clean copy of the world you play in. No outside disturbances. That's nice. No punks bringing you hassles.

Find someone who already owns the game. Every promo event usually gives players a chance to let a friend try the game for free..(ok..some harddisk space is the true costs) but you can keep your character if you like it and it's the full game with NO hinderances!

Last, as I play the game for over 1 year now, I encounter special 'events' holidays and such that have their own mini quests just for the weekend. They are fun and lots of prizes and special treats. Every year..3-6 events come out..all for that same $50!!

If you like to play a game to BEAT IT..forget it. There is no BEATING IT..it's complete the quests..grow your character and then participate in larger campaigns!

I'm a lifetime player! :) I don't even look at WOW!

Thanks for reading my first review! :)
