In Guild Wars, you play as a hero from Ascalon, your typical fantasy province that's fallen on hard times, thanks to relentless assaults from fearsome creatures called the charr. Ascalon seems huge and wondrous as you begin to explore it and its outskirts. But it turns out to be literally just a tiny portion of the richly detailed and shockingly gigantic world of Tyria, which you'll explore during the course of an adventure that's truly epic. Meanwhile, the other half of the game consists of competitive battles between teams of players, set in various types of arena events.

Pros: Runs great on dialup, infinite replayability, Strong PVP game. Titles, Events, Free Monthly Play.
Cons: Can be difficult to get into.
I first started playing this game in June of '05. It was slow to get addicted, but once I learned the controls and camera movement I became a huge fan. I stopped playing for a while because I moved to a dial-up connection and instead of trying it, relied on second hand info that told me it wouldn't work. Around march of '06 I tried again on dial-up and it works fine. Believe it, you can run this game on a 56k connection and it will run perfectly, some loads will be slow obviously but it's worth the wait. I've read some of the reviews and many of these people gave up to quickly, getting to level 20 is NOT the goal of the game, in fact there's a never ending list of things to accomplish, i.e. titles and elite missions. Not to mention PvP. Now 2 stand alone expansion packs later, I am addicted, thank the gods there is no monthly fee.
