Sprint's First Android...

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Sprint's good coverage, loud speaker, Android 2.1, Multi-Touch, HTC Sense, Thin & Light design,

Cons: Battery Life, Slow at times, Low-resolution video recording,  Limited user storage for Applications

The Bottom Line:
As an Entry-Level smartphone, I think this would be a great purchase for anyone on Sprint who want's to be able to connect anywhere on the go!

Author's Review
For being an entry level smartphone, I am surprisingly impressed with the performance and value of this phone. I have owned the phone for over 6 months, and have had no complaints since the Android 2.1 update. The update slightly improved battery life, drastically improved performance and usefulness of the phone!
I find myself not needing a computer to do more and more, I purchase all my music OTA using Amazon Mp3, I take all my pictures for social networks on my phone, and for most social events. I do all my casual browsing on my Hero, with no complaints or problems, I watch all my favorite YouTube videos using the built in Youtube application. I use my Hero to pass time with games and applications downloaded from the Android Market, I use my Hero as my primary navigation system, Mp3 player, and communication device. I use my Hero to record my favorite shows away from home when I forgot to set my DVR before I leave.

I bought this phone as a replacement to my Samsung Instinct, and I could not be more pleased with my purchase! HTC Sense is a great interface on top of Android, and is very user friendly and great for social networking, communicating with others over the web. HTC did a great job with the design of the Hero, and I am very pleased with the build quality of the device. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera that is great for capturing pictures on the go! It also has built-in Wifi for faster internet connections where available, GPS for improved Navigation support, and EVDO Rev. A for fast download speeds over Sprint's 3G network.

The phone preforms everyday tasks well and quickly like text messaging, checking e-mails, phone calls, web browsing, social networking, taking pictures, and catching up with current news, and weather conditions. The speaker on the phone is very loud and is usable for playing music or other media, as well as talking on the phone. Although the battery life was improved with the Android 2.1 update, the battery drains quickly when browsing the web, and using GPS and graphic intensive applications, and the phone will begin to slow down occasionally if you have too many applications open, just like on a computer, to close them, simply install and run a task manager available for download for free from the Android Market.

Overall, the HTC Hero is a great entry level smartphone from Sprint and other carriers. Most will be pleased with their purchase, as was I.
