Made from solid FSC timber, this new butterflymoth feederhabitat features a special removable feed tray together with a safe over-wintering habitat. The feed tray is designed and coloured to emulate garden nectar sources and utilises a special ultra violet paint which is both visible and attractive to butterflies. Small nectar pots for Wildlife World butterfly food or a sugarwater solution combine with a larger pot suitable for fruit and other attractants. Although the main house will be used for roosting and hibernating, the opening side door allows the insertion of flower attractants such as buddleia spp. The following may also use the house for hibernating: Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock (often found in sheds and outbuildings) and the Comma butterfly. Additionally if nectar is available, the feeder may help Bumble Bees survive in early spring. Less commonly the Silver Winged Fritillary may use the box to lay eggs (preferably sited in mature trees). The chrysalis could be formed on the roof or internal branches.Siting - Site the box in a warm sheltered position, out of prevailing winds, ideally to catch the morning sun. Use butterfly food andor fruit to fill the pots. ProRep Tortoise Life is part of the species-specific life series of substrates and has been created to meet the needs of tortoises originating from arid habitats, particularly Mediterranean and Russian tortoises. Tortoise life is a 50:50 mixture of high quality top soil and play sand with a little limestone grit added to provide some Calcium if the substrate is eaten. This mixture simulates the texture and moisture retention characteristics of the soils found in their natural habitats much more closely than other substrates. It is also suitable for many species of lizards that originate from arid habitats. Directions: Spread the substrate evenly over the bottom of the enclosure to a depth of at least 2” (5cm) for young animals and up to 6” (15cm) or more for mature animals. (Russian tortoises particularly may need a deeper substrate as they burrow extensively.) Spot-clean daily to remove soiled substrate and replace completely every 2 or 3 weeks.
