Author's Review
If you enjoyed Guitar Hero I or II, you will love this addition of the game Rock the 80’s. This game has some older songs like “Heat of the Moment”, “Turning Japanese”, “What I Like About You” are just a few of the great songs that are on there.

For those who have not played the game, you are a guitarist playing in many concerts, earning your way through the game to unlock new songs, and new game modes for multiplayer.

When you first start up the game it will show you the guitar buttons, and what each one does. Green is to select, so when picking a song, you will choose this. The red is to go back. And start is to pause the game obviously.

Now that you are into the game you will be asked to play multiplayer, or Career, I would suggest you play Career first for that will allow you to unlock the other songs and be able to enjoy more than just the same first 5 songs that you start off with when you buy the game. So for the career mode you get to pick your bands name (This is just what the file of the game will be called, just be creative).

Ok, now you can have the choice from a few different people to play as. The people you have the choice from are, Johnny Napalm, Judy Nails, Izzy Sparks, Pandora, Axel Steel, and once you beat some of the songs, and buy the last character, you can be the Grim Ripper (No that’s not spelled wrong, its how the game uses it).

You will also get to pick your own guitar. They are just for show like the characters are and just pick the one you like best. I normally start off with the Gibson Flying V until I buy more guitars (Which you can also do when you beat songs and earn money).

Now you will be able to pick your level of game play (Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert). The first level Easy will only have you use 3 buttons, the Green, Red, and Yellow. Medium will make it a little more difficult by adding more notes, going a little faster, and adding the Blue button. Hard will add more notes, go quite a bit faster, and adds the Orange button. Now when you select expert, you will be given the same things as Hard, but they add a good amount of notes more, and it speeds up a lot.

Now you can pick your songs. You will be given a list of 4 songs at the start, depending on the mode is how many you have to play before you play the encore and can go onto the next set of songs. The first songs you will be playing are:

(Bang Your Head) Metal Health
We Got the Beat
I Ran (So Far Away)
Balls to the Wall
18 and Life – Encore song

Those are just the first few songs you get to play, than you will be going on to the next songs and onward till you finish the game. By finishing each mode, you will be unlocking a guitar. Also if you get all 5 stars on a certain skill level, you will be unlocking another guitar for that as well.

The other songs you will be allowed to play are:

No One like You
Shakin’
Heat of the Moment
Radar Love
Because, it’s Midnite – Encore Song

Holy Diver
Turning Japanese
Hold On Loosely
The Warrior
I Wanna Rock – Encore Song

What I Like About You
Synchronicity II
Ballroom Blitz
Only a Lad
Round And Round - Encore Song

Ain’t Nothing but a Good Time
Lonely Is the Night
Bathroom Wall
Los Angeles
Wrathchild – Encore Song

Electric Eye
Police Truck
Seventeen
Caught In a Mosh
Play With Me – Encore Song

The nice thing about this game is that you can hear the song before you play it, so you can decide which one sounds the most fun to play at the time. You and your friends will enjoy this game for a long time. Even though you may beat the levels fast at first, you still have the competition to beat Hard, and Expert which will take most people some time to get there. Also once you have all the songs, you don’t have to worry about not having a good song to play. This game never gets old, and the songs can be played over and over again.

Some HDTV’s aren’t responsive directly with the sound, and you may have some lag causing you not to be able to play that well. If this happens, simply go to Options > Video Settings > Calibrate Lag. This will allow you to fix that problem. There in options you can change other things, as well as manage your band where you can delete it, or rename it.

If you have any problems on a song, you can go to training. In training you are allowed to select how ever fast you want it to go, on the skill level you want. So you can play hard with the orange buttons, and all the notes that will need to be played on slow as an easy setting. This will allow you to get your fingering right for the harder parts of the song. You are allowed to pick what section of the song that you want to practice, so you don’t have to play the whole beginning and the whole end if you only want a part in the middle.

Now that you know the game, you will need to know your guitars. You can purchase one at any place, or you might have gotten one in a bundle pack. These are a lot better than using the controller. But why would you want a guitar hero game and not use a guitar right? Well if you are looking and have the money, I would suggest buying one of the wireless guitars. This way you will never have to worry about that cord not being long enough, and be restraint to close to the tv/playstation2. This takes only 2 AA’s and will last a long time before being replaced. If you don’t have the money for a wireless, you can get the wired ones from most used game stores for pretty cheap. They work fine, I just don’t like that wire. Also if you have the wired controller, it has a greater chance of getting wrecked due to tangling, and just the cord not being treated right when in storage.

If you decide to buy this one, I would suggest I, II, and III as well if you don’t have them already. This game will also make a great gift for any of your friends, relatives, neighbors, everyone can enjoy this game.

Now are ready to rock. So if you think this is the game for you, purchase it, or if you already have turn it on and start playing.
