Decent product-Good price

Author's Rating: Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: Inexpensive software and customer service actually solved the problem.

Cons: Problems with the downloaded software.

The Bottom Line:
If you need Word and Excel for home use, this is the way to go. Be prepared to deal with customer service though.

Author's Review
After having the same home PC for five years, something happened to my Word and Excel programs and they both stopped running properly. After spending hours on the phone and online with customer service agents about the problem and since I work from home, my computer is a necessity so I gave in and decided to repurchase the Microsoft Office product. I opted for the Home and Student full version since I am only using it from home and needed only the programs it comes with.

When I downloaded the 2007 Version and tried to use Word, my pages kept coming up with strange symbols. This was especially frustrating when I tried to open lengthy documents and symbols were inserted all over my page. I worked with various online customer service agents who could solve my problem when I created a new document but I had to type some command in the "run" box every single time I wanted to create a document and the solution did nothing for documents already created.

I finally called customer service. You get 90 days free customer service with the purchase of the product. The agent called back promptly but missed me and left a professional message giving me his number to call back, which I did. When I got in touch with him, I had a very difficult time understanding him as English was not his first language but after getting past the language barriers, he was able to fix my problem completely.

They then asked me to participate in a customer service survey and I declined but he put his manager on the phone who persuaded me that if I didn't participate, the agent who helped me would not get a bonus or something of the sort. So, I agreed. I couldn't understand the supervisor very well either but I finally got the understanding that he wanted me to up my rating of satisfaction with the agent because I initially scored him low online and he wasn't going to get his bonus unless I changed it to something higher. I really didn't care at this point so I agreed but it was kind of strange to be "bullied" in that manner.
