Pros: 10x optical zoom, good image quality, good for special events- homework, panorama
Cons: fuzzy videos, not good for close up shots
The Bottom Line:
Great if you're on a budget and dont need a fancy camera
The Kodak EasyShare Z915 is overall great camera. I bought it for every day use. It is perfect for birthday parties and special events and even school projects. It takes the picture in as little as a quarter of a second, so you can take those shots that you usually would miss when using another camera.
The optical zoom is useful at times like when you're trying to take a picture of something 15 yards away. The image quality is spectacular. The colors are just as they are in real life. There is no color distortion and the photos come out clear. However the videos are grainy especially when taking them inside, where there isn't much natural light. When taking them outside its a lot better, but I would still recommend getting a separate camcorder if you really want to take videos. For example I tried taking pictures of cars going 40 mph and i got the picture 6 out of 10 times and i think that's pretty good. When you put it on the sport mode the cars didn't even look fuzzy at all.
This camera is fairly easy to understand. the camera automatically adjusts the settings for you according to the light or zoom. The timer and flash controls are easy to use and see. But i find it hard to use the arrow buttons that you use to navigate through the pictures. When deleting you have to press delete and then choose the picture or the whole card and I've accidentally deleted all the pictures on the card and I think that it was a poor choice to make it like that. The zoom control is easy to use but feels a little flimsy and cheap.
There's some parts of the camera that a lot of people wont be able to use like the shutter priority setting and aperture priority setting. I have no idea what these things are but if you are a an enthusiast you probably would be good to know that you're getting those options too.
Also when trying to take close up shots of something the zoom does not adjust well. The end result is the picture looks blurry and out of focus. I found myself having to delete pictures because it was so out of focus that it was practically unrecognizable.
The panorama feature was outstanding. There's this little sliver of the picture you took before on the side of the screen and you match it up with the picture you are about to take. If you get that right the camera stitches them together with ease and precision. However if you want to get it perfect without any errors at all, or you don't have a steady hand i would recommend a tripod. The tripod holds it level and does this without any shaking.
One final thing is that I haven't even used the EasyShare button once. I don't find the needed to. instead of hooking up my camera to the computer and having to wait for the thing to sync i just take the memory card out and put it into the computer and download the pictures from there.
