Kodak EasyShare Z980 Digital Camera

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Good Auto Focus

Great Zoom

High Quality Photos

RAW Mode

Cons: Side Button

Lens Cap

Semi-Occasionally it takes 3-4 seconds to take a photo.

The Bottom Line:
The bottom line is that this camera is easy to carry in one hand, starts quickly. It zooms, focuses and shoots fast, and the pictures look great

First off, the quality of the photos I have taken are excellent which is what a still camera should be capable of. The pictures have rich vivid colors and are real eye catchers.

I positively adore the 24x optical zoom. When zoomed to the max the photos become a bit fuzzy but that is really to be expected. While I rarely use it fully it is very nice to have on hand. If nothing else it is very amusing, just look at these photos I took at a high school graduation.

Now you tell me how well the zoom work. Yes it is fairy fuzzy but
it was actually fairly foggy that night and I also didnt have a tripod which may have contributed to the fuzz.

The fixed LCD on the back remains exposed and so also needs a case more than the reversing LCDs on some other cameras. The constantly adjusting focus, if one uses that setting, is kind of busy and distracting, although it usually performs well. I think it is a great alternative to an SLR unless you are a very serious photographer. And even then its still a great little camera to have on hand. Oh! Did I also mention it shoots in RAW mode? It has many many settings to choose from in the SCN mode.

One of the few faults I had when I bought this camera was the lens cap. It is very cheaply made but I was able to get a good one for about 10 dollars on ebay. One pointless option (for me anyways) is the button on the side. You can use it to take photos but you have to flip a switch and hold the camera a certain way in order take the photo. I believe I have used it twice? It isnt really a con, but it can be a bit annoying at times.

The bottom line is that this camera is pretty great. It zooms, focuses and shoots fast (although sometime you have to wait 2-3 seconds between shots), and the pictures look great. I would definitely recommend this camera to both beginners and professionals alike.
