My first Psx2 game

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Everything

Cons: not enough time in a day to play it

The Bottom Line:
My first Psx2 game and so far it is the best. This is the best EA Sports game of 2001

Author's Review
Along with NHL2001, Madden 2001 was my first Psx2 game. Before 2001, I only owned one other Madden football game, that was Madden 2000 for the PC. I personally thought that that was a great game, so I decided to get 2001. I brought it home and I couldn’t believe my eyes, that’s how much better madden 2001 for Psx2 is then 2000 for PC. That also told me that when I gave away $300 for the Psx2, that I would not regret it.

Game play
This game's game play is awesome. There are different features like:
Season- Start a season with any team you want (even teams from the World League)
Franchise- Start a Franchise with any team you want. What this is is multiple seasons with the same team. In the franchise mode you can switch coaches, trade players, release players, re-sign players, draft players, players retire, coaches resign, coaches get fired, and much more. You can keep a franchise going for as long as you want.
Practice- You can practice special teams, offence, defense, and field goals.
Single game- Just play a single game, you can pick both of the teams. Every team in the game is in this option

Teams
There are over 100 teams in this game. There are all of the regular teams, World League teams, Good teams of the past, Good teams of the past that you win in madden cards, and all of the All Madden teams of the past that you can win playing the madden cards. (Explain madden cards later)

Sound
Sound is a very important part of this game. There is great sound. On all of the menus there is a rap song written about football and the Madden 2001 game. Better then that song are the in-game sounds. You can hear sounds from the bone crushing hits, great catches, after the play announcing, and smash mouth trash talking. In all of the sound features, my favorite is the crowd. If you are at home and you make a big play or a few plays to stop the other team, then the crowd erupts and sometimes starts chants of your team or one of your players. Then when the opposing team makes a 1st down pass/gets a big tackle on you/sacks you, then the crowd calms down or even boos the other team.

Graphics
Graphics are key here to. There are great graphics in all of the game except for the concept of tackles. There are shadows of the players and sometimes stadiums on day games. That is a real great touch to this game. Every little detail in this game makes it great. Like the grass in the facemask after a hard hit, or the line markers and marksmen getting knocked over when players get to close. You will also find the graphics of the fans a key factor to. Over all this games graphics will be setting the standards for all Psx2 games.

Madden Cards/Madden Challenge
The Madden cards are a new feature to this game, but the Madden Challenge is not. During the game when ever you do things like make a 20 yard pass, intercept a pass on defense, return a punt for a touchdown, and a whole list or more things, then you get a certain number of points. The points range from 2 to 20 depending on what skill level you have the game on and how hard the task was to do. With all the points that you collect, you but Madden cards. These cards are of players, cheats, historic players, teams, and stadiums. For all of the cards of players and cheats, there is bronze, silver, and gold cards of them. The bronze player cards up the ability of the player for one play. The silver ones up their ability for one quarter. And the gold ones up their ability for one half. It is a little different with the cheat cards. They go bronze-one play, silver-one half, and gold-game.
Another kind of madden cards are the Historic Players cards. They all come in gold cards and have infinite use. What they are, are cards of historic players like Dan Merino, Barry Sanders, Gary Clark, and a lot more. When you activate these cards then they appear on the free agents roster of your season or franchise. Only activate the ones that you are going to use for that season or franchise for a few reasons. Teams pick them up if you don’t, There salary is $3.50 million (make sure you meet the cap requirements), and because there could be better players on your team with a less salary.
The other groups of cards are the stadiums and teams. You can get all different teams by buying packs of cards. You can get real teams like All madden teams or great teams of the past. You can also get fake teams like the monsters, the Marshals, and Team Sugarbuzz. All of these teams also come with there own stadium that you have to get the cards for. There are also other stadiums like the EA Sports stadium and stadiums of all of the Super Bowls.
After you collect all of your Madden Challenge points then you go into the Madden Cards section and hit the buy cards button. This will give you 15 new cards! There are about 230 cards so start collecting.

This is a real great game and I cant wait till 2002 comes out!
