Pros: Risk meets Civilization meets Command & Conquer
Cons: Interface could be a tiny bit better
The Bottom Line:
Absolute must-have for strategy fans.
Alright, take Risk. If you have never played this popular board game, it's a map divided into regions where you move your armies around and "wage war." You decide the outcome of each battle with dice and the strength of your units.
Then add a very good dose of Civilization where you build up an economy and increase your scientific and military research.
Finally, add a real time component as in Command & Conquer (though M: TW has much more realism) and you have this game.
It has literally infinite replayability! You can choose from a myriad of factions who you want to be. You can choose from three time periods. You can set the difficulty of the AI. You can play multiplayer.
That's not all either, you can win in different ways, depending on what suits your taste. You can win by military domination, by underhanded techniques using spies and assasins, by utilizing diplomacy and by accomplishing achievements. Of course, you can combine all these different approaches to any degree you like.
If you like strategy games, you have to own this one! Also, the real time battles are optional - but highly recommended. However, if you are not given to the gore and glory of a battle, you can still play this whole game cerebrally, using technology, diplomacy and overall strategy.
It is one of the, if not THE, most complete strategy games out there. One of the very best games ever published.
There are minor encumberances with the interface. But I am not going to go into them. They are truly not worth mentioning in detail and the game is so interesting and challenging at once that one is very easily persuaded to overlook them.
You love strategy? GET THIS GAME!
(How can we get epinions to update these stupid hardware specs? Who plays games with a machine under 600MHz these days? That's right, VERY few! And what's an Nvidia GeForce 256 again? My memory fails me ;-) )
