Nice little camera

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Price, size, weight. Extremely nice lens.

Cons: Perhaps battery duration and lack of an optical visor; however, the LCD is great.

The Bottom Line:
I recommend this camera for users looking for an inexpensive, small, light, but very smart camera, with the best lens in its price range.

I bought the Nikon L1 as my first digital camera. I wanted a light and small camera, as I already owned a Nikon SLR film camera, but became tired of carrying heavy equipment around during my travels, and also the nuisance of having to find decent film developers.
I am very pleased with this camera: I am still amazed with its wonderful lens, that allows to take extreme close ups in macro mode, and also behaves decently in telephoto. The LCD visor is very large and bright, but shooting in the sunlight sometimes it is hard to be seen.
The camera is very versatile, and the pictures are wonderful. I bought an inexpensive 1GB SD memory card, that can hold really many, many pictures. The only objectable thing that night shoots look somewhat grainy, and that sometimes it is hard to play with focus depth, giving pictures a rather "flat" aspect, but both problems I saw in every digital photo I have ever seen...
At first, I had problems with the duration of batteries, as even alkaline batteries wont last long. The problem was solved purchasing a set of 2500 mA/h rechargeable batteries, that allow many pictures to be taken per charge.
Overall, a very nice and inexpensive camera.
