High quality point-and-shoot but not much more

Author's Rating: Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: 15x zoom, simple to use, comparatively inexpensive

Cons: No manual ISO, occasional misfocus, manual raise flash

The Bottom Line:
This camera is worth the low price and is a good buy for photography hobbyists. However, if your budget is higher and you're looking for quality, I'd suggest another option.

Although this camera appears as more, it's not much except your basic point-and-shoot camera. The 15x zoom lens attached to the front would lead you to expect more but if you do, you might be disappointed. This camera is good at what it does but in this reviewer's opinion, could do better.

I ended up somewhat mistakenly buying this camera. I had been looking at the Nikon L110 and was on the verge of buying it. I came across one that seemed almost exactly the same, only 2 megapixels shorter and $100 cheaper. Without looking into it much further, I pressed buy and it was a done deal.

I did some research while the camera was on its way through the mail and that's when I realized my mistake. Although on the outside the only difference between the L100 and L110 was 2 megapixels, I began to realize why the L100 was so much more inexpensive.

Naturally the first thing I did when I received the camera was take some pictures. One of the first things I noticed was the camera's inability to focus correctly. Even in simple lighting situations, the camera would sometimes auto-focus onto an object in the background, and sometimes even that would be substantially blurry. This aspect got a tad better when I realized that the focus-assist is right next to the handgrip, and I was covering it with my finger most of the time. However, even after I made sure I wasn't covering the focus-assist, the camera would still often misfocus on the picture. Sometimes it wouldn't focus on anything, and just leave every part of the picture blurry.

Another notable problem with this camera is the lack of a manual ISO selection. This isn't a huge problem for me, seeing as I'm an amatuer photographer. However, I can imagine this would be a huge turn-off for quite a large number of people. The camera does have different presets such as beach, or sunset, but there is no way to manually select the ISO. Since the camera does it automatically, it sometimes misselects and then you are left with a poor quality photo with bad ISO, and no body wants that.

Although so far I've only listed negatives, this is still a relatively decent camera. The 15x zoom works perfectly and even at 15x, the picture is clear and not blurry (if it focuses correctly, anyway). The camera is incredibly easy to use. Even an inexperienced photographer could pick one up and easily figure out its set-up and how to use it. The simplicity of use is expected, though, seeing as this camera isn't much more than a point-and-shoot camera with a big lens attached to the front.

All in all, this camera is definitely acceptable for the price you pay. This buffed-out point-and-shoot is surely enough for the amatuer photographer on a budget and for ~150 USD, it's worth the money.
