Quite a camera!

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Easy to use.
Option to view on LCD or eye-hole.
Easy pop up flash.

Cons: Sometimes goes blurry when taking continuous pictures.
Large, photo transfer program for computer.

The Bottom Line:
It's many cameras all built into one. Easy and enjoyable to use, takes great photos for a minimum effort and even better for that little extra knowledge you learn/have!

I bought this camera a few months after breaking my originally and wanted to also at the same time upgrade to something more complicated. I had outgrown my original camera so this was the perfect upgrade, it's easy to use, easy to hold and takes great photos. It's a little better then beginner cameras and looks like a very fancy camera, you don't need to change the lens and it zooms in amazingly!

The zoom is excellent, I have sat in my living room and zoomed right up to the basket of a hot air balloon on the horizon, it picks up the name, shape and details of the balloon and some of the basket, doesn't pick up the people much. A con about the zoom is that when you've zoomed to the fullest (make sure it's on digital zoom) the smallest movement of the camera makes the image disappear, like you've moved the cameras lens in a completely different direction.

The option to change from LCD screen to the eye-hole viewing is excellent for those not used to the LCD screen and visa verse. The screen shows the photo in untrue colours I've found, what make look amazing on the LCD, won't always look amazing on the PC monitor. I suppose that's what editing is for thought.

The buttons are big enough to be seen and pressed without difficulty, without reading the manual, most are easy to navigate, and a button by the flash allows you to pop the flash open whenever you think it's needed without even having to look for it! A simple side to side switch, to turn camera on and off and another simple up and down switch to look at the taken photos slide show.

A turn around button with simple settings on it like Auto, Portrait, Scenery, Sports, Night Portrait, Close-up, Scene Mode, Movie, Custom Setting 1, Custom Setting 2, Manual Exposure, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Program AE. I don't know what they all are as I haven't completely experimented or read about them. Portrait, Scenery, Sports, Night Portrait, Close-up, Scene Mode have extra options when clicked onto, like landscape, pets, soft skin, nature, indoor and outdoor, illuminations and so on. A little button called display will give you a short explanation of what each setting will allow you to do and each has a custom one which lets you 'go in the middle of the original settings.

All in all the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 is a great camera for people who wish to advance but don't know a whole lot about cameras. I got it for £210 with extras too from eBay!
