The SDR-S26 camcorder features a powerful 70x optical zoom combined with an advanced optical image stabilization system that corrects hand-shake around 4,000 times per second. The SDR-S26 camcorder offers a function that simplifies the process of copying recordings from the Memory Card or hard disk drive to a DVD. Simply connect the camcorder to a VW-BN1 DVD Burner (optional) and press the button. No PC is required. A DVD disc created this way can be easily played directly from a DVD player.

Pros: best zoom
best image stabilization
cheapest batteries
cheapest media- sd card not like the damn sony
Cons: slightly less resolution
weak in low light
short batterylife/no extended battery option
no auto lenscap
The Bottom Line:
All were very good. The canon may be best for concert recording. If zoom isnt big for you go by price
I like to review by comparison and as such this is a winner. I wanted a light small camcorder with a decent zoom. I've been working with the 3x optical on my digital camera for awhile and it just doesn't cut it. I wanted at least 30x optical and <$300 range. So I looked at the pana, sony, jvc and canon fs200. The pana had a few less lines of resolution but the best zoom, no external audio input and a short battery life of 40min but where it really excelled was its optical image stabilization. The others including the very good canon were neary impossible to hold stable at even 34x with there digital image stabilization but the panasonic could be handheld at 70x (just don't breathe:) I did video in store with all these models and compared it on a laptop. In the end there was very little difference for most standard shooting except for the panasonics outstanding zoom. Since it was also $200 and the cheapest at the time I got it and so far its been great. The aftermarket batteries are fine and 2 weeks vacation of videos fit on my 8gb sdcard. The long zoom gave me some great closeups of the ruins and some great candid shots of the kids. This'll hold me over till one of these great companies give me all of this and HD at <300
