WOW! What a Zoom!

Pros: loaded with features, easy to operate
Cons: slightly heavier than some other point and shoot cameras
Recently I decided to purchase a 35mm point and shoot camera. Years ago I used a 110 Instamatic and was quite pleased. My husband told me I was so skilled at composing pictures that I should buy a 35mm SLR. About 5-6 years ago, I purchased a Canon EOS Elan. I never really wanted an SLR because it was heavy and didn't have the convenience I was looking for. I used it maybe 3-4 times on summer vacations and the rest of the year it sat in the closet and collected dust. All along I wanted a camera that could do everything, as well as being reasonable priced.
After looking at several point and shoot cameras, I narrowed my choices down to the Canon Sure Shot Z 135, the Olympus Stylus Zoom 140, or the Pentax IQ Zoom 160. The buttons for the Canon Sure Shot were close together and if you would adjust the telephoto, you could accidentally shoot a photo you were not ready to take. A definite design flaw! The strobe flash on the Olympus was BLINDING!!! A negative for children, adults and anyone who objects to having their picture taken. Olympus should definitely go back to the drawing board! The Olympus was the lightest weight but I had also read of problem with the cover getting jammed or stuck in a partially open position. Then I tried the Pentax IQ Zoom 160. The competition was left in the dust or shall I say darkroom! It is slightly heavier than the other two cameras I was considering, but there really is a difference between 135 and 140 zoom versus 160 zoom. I also looked through the Pentax IQ Zoom 200 to satisfy my curiosity, but since the starting lens was 48mm instead of 38mm, you lose the wide angle. It also was more expensive because of the 200 Zoom capability, but I didn't want to sacrifice the wide angle. The difference was noticeable.
The Pentax IQ Zoom 160 is a little camera that does it all. It is easy and convenient to operate and the store where I purchased it from gave me a 5 year extended warranty. Most companies give a one or two year warranty. The photo quality is superb and because of it's compactness is easy to take wherever I desire. I'm actually looking forward to taking lots of photos during my summer vacation and later this year when I go to Israel with my husband. I am a critical consumer and demand a lot of quality for my money. Pentax has created a camera that is picture perfect in my book!
