The Philips CD4451S Digital Cordless Phone with Answering Machine puts the emotion back into a call. High Definition sound brings people and their feelings closer together. Enjoy high quality conversation, with a level of clarity rarely heard before. Thanks to a high-quality speaker and to a real acoustic chamber, the audio spectrum reaches far beyond what's normally heard on a telephone. Handsfree mode uses a built-in loud speaker to amplify the voice of the caller, allowing you to speak and listen during a call without holding the phone to your ear. This is especially useful if you want to share the call with others or take notes during a call.

Pros: None that I can find.
Cons: poor battery run time, poor audio quality, and general weirdness of operation
The Bottom Line:
This is an overall disappointing product. Even the salesperson said that quite a few had been returned.
I just returned the 2nd (replacement) phone to Staples yesterday and got a different brand. The reasons for my dissatisfaction with this phone include poor battery run time, poor audio quality, and general weirdness of operation.
Batteries: The first phone refused to charge the batteries. The icon continued to show the batteries charging regardless of how long it was on the charger, and when removed, it only held the charge for 30 minutes or so. The second phone charged the batteries, but even after following the suggestions of Philips' tech support and fully charging (24 hours) and then fully discharging the batteries several time, the phone would hold a charge less than 12 hours with very light use.
From the beginning I had a hard time hearing callers on the phone. I don't have hearing problems, and even on a cell phone rarely have problems hearing a conversation. There was a constant static/hiss sound on both phones that interfered with the clarity of the call. The volume control was not capable of raising the volume to a comfortable level for me or for my husband.
The caller ID function was completely unintuitive. When you press the caller ID button, you then have to scroll and press another button to get it to display recent callers. When a call is received on a corded phone on the same line, the Philips phone displays the new call blinking blue light anyway. In order to avoid this light, you have to answer the phone using the cordless handset (which is a problem considering that it has to live on the charger).
I rarely have problems with phones, but this one is a real disappointment. I returned the replacement yesterday and bought a V-tech instead. It is charging, and Im hopeful that it will be more satisfactory. I have no plans to purchase any more Philips products in the near or distant future.
