This is a neat little machine!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Capacity, small size, micro SD slot, equalizer, Video, Shuffle, battery life, charges on USB

Cons: Non-removable battery, no wall-wart or car cord supplied.

The Bottom Line:
I would highly recommend the Sansa Fuze to anyone in the market for a medium-capacity MP3, audio book, video, photo player.

My wife used to have headaches she termed "zingers" years ago and would lie on the couch with a cassette player and over-the-ear headphones, listening to Elvis while covering her eyes with a damp washcloth.  Well, in two days she is going in for major dental surgery and wanted the contemporary version of a cassette player to soothe her nerves and block out any ambient dental "noise."  I did a little research and found the Fuze 4 GB.  We had a $70 gift card, so off we went to Target and bought the Fuze and a $10 pair of Sony over-the-ear earphones to go with it.

I then fired up Windows Media Player and built an Elvis playlist to her specs and synced it to the Fuze.  Very easy.  She will now have her favorite artist to comfort her in the dentist's chair.

I was surprised at the amount of features this unit has...like FM radio, a micro SD card slot (for photos of the grandson to show around, etc.)

It has a decent equalizer on it with preset environments such as Rock, Jazz, Normal, Classical, etc. so you can tailor your sound.  It has plenty of volume.

The lack of a "sleep" feature another reviewer mentioned has been addressed with the latest firmware update, which was very easy to install.

I had a bit of trouble getting my desktop computer (running Windows Vista) to recognize the Fuze, until I plugged it into an available USB port on the BACK of the case.  USB hubs and the other ports on the front of the computer did not have sufficient power to get it recognized and to initiate charging.  This is mentioned in their documentation.

I have not put videos on it and probably won't, but photos will find a home there.

The controls are very similar to an IPOD, and if you get "lost" you can press the "home" button to get to the main screen.

For $70, this machine can't be beat!
