Wrestling: Simpsons Style

Author's Rating: Rating: 2/5 stars

Pros: Sound, fun for a little while

Cons: graphics, gameplay is flawed

The Bottom Line:
The game isn't worth much of your time. The overall concept was nice, but the game itself is poor. I suppose diehard Simpsons fans could love this.

Author's Review
The Simpsons is a pop culture favorite, that has spawned many things to purchase with their likeness on it. Pro wrestling is a popular fictional sport that people enjoy, so a Simpsons twist on it should've been decent.

Plot

Aliens challenge the people of Springfield to a wrestling match. The people of the town must compete against each other first, to determine who will face the aliens and save the town.

This is an alright plot, and doesn't hurt the game. A majority of wrestling games don't have plots usually.

Gameplay

The game is wrestling, however it's not completely accurately to the actual pro wrestling that's seen on television. There is no referee, you can't leave the ring and a few other minor things.

You choose a mode to play in: circuit, practice and VS when you first start the game.

Circuit: This is the main part of the game, in which you must defeat opponents in a certain order to win. Once you beat the first circuit, you can play in others that are more difficult.

Practice: This is just a practice mode, to try out the various characters in the game. You pick one, and compete against a computer player.

VS: In this mode, you compete against a friend. It's the only two player mode in the game. It will be the part of the game you will be playing the most.

The characters in the game are all your favorites from the Simpsons. You start with 16 people: including Homer, Lisa, Marge, Bart, Barney, Krusty and others. There is other characters that must be unlocked. Each character has some unique moves, (Bart uses a slingshot as one example).

The game also has a few items that appear sometimes. These include health, speed increase and taunt items. When you spell out taunt, your character stuns your opponent for a short time.

Controls in the game are easy to learn, and aren't a problem at all.

Overall, gameplay is below average. Moves are very limited, and the game is basically a button masher. Whoever can mash the quickest usually wins.

Graphics and sound

The graphics are poor, and are a low point for the game. The characters look a little like their cartoon versions, but could've been much better. Characters in the background for levels are dull, and are motionless.

Sound is a positive part of the game. All the voices are done by the same people that do them for the cartoon. Each character has various lines, so it's very entertaining to hear them all.

Replay Value

The game has some replay value. There is more characters to unlock, plus three difficulty settings. Cheat codes add a bit to the game as well. Also the game has many characters to see, so diehard Simpsons fans will enjoy seeing all of them.
