Sony DSC-S930, simple camera for daily use

Author's Rating: Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: simple and intuitive controls, adequate resolution, good selection of automatic exposure settings

Cons: takes about 1 second to record each still shot (too slow), low internal memory space

The Bottom Line:
This camera is good for casual picture taking or the occasional video. It's great to bring along at weekend bar trips, cookouts, etc. It fits easily in a trouser pocket.

I've had this camera for two months now. I won it from a website online promo. This camera is easy to use. There are only eight buttons to access all of the functions of this camera. The menu system is simple and intuitive. You can take this camera with you everyday. Just buy an inexpensive camera case to help protect it from bumps and scratches. When you turn it on, it takes about two seconds and it's ready to shoot. It only has 12 megabytes of internal memory though, good for only eleven 16:9-resolution pictures. Set it to higher resolutions and you'll get an even lower available picture count. But if you use an external "lowest capacity" 256-MB Sony memory stick, you'll have enough memory for everyday use. And a 2-GB memory stick allows you to take hundreds or even thousands of pictures, depending upon the resolution. You can also record video, but each video file can have a maximum file size of only 2 gigabytes. You'll have to start with another video file if your first video file reaches the 2-GB limit. Also, I noticed that after pressing the shutter button, it takes about a second before the viewscreen goes back to normal (i.e., you can't take another shot until after the viewscreen is "live" again after that 1 second time interval). This camera won't work for live-action shots. For its price, it's not really meant for those kinds of shots anyway.
