Years ago I bought a no-name analog clock radio in a garage sale for $5. The bright red LED display was clearer than most on the market now, but the volume control was wearing out and a bit fiddly.

I bought this Sony for the features - twice. It has a digital tuner and two alarms, so you can go to sleep and wake up to different stations, wake up to a different station on the weekend, etc. It has a nap timer... If fact it looked nice and had everything I might want except radio control setting of the clock. But I took it back. The display is completely unreadable from a viewing angle below the unit. Level with it, the display is faint. You need to be above the unit to read the display clearly. I was on a futon and got tired of propping myself up on my elbow to read the time. I returned the unit and went back to the $5 faithful.

I bought the Sony again when I changed beds. No problem reading the display now. It worked fine for about six months and then one day the alarm did not go off. I was late for work. I tried unplugging it for a while, restarted it, but now whenever I pressed a button the screen would go blank - and the alarm did not work. Completely useless. The Sony is in the landfill. The $5 no-name is still going strong.
