Sony PRS-505 eBook ReaderThe Reader from Sony is the perfect way to store and read digital books. With enough space for up to 160 eBooks, it has a long battery life and amazing paper-like screen. It’s smaller than the average paper back and easy to use.

Great idea but limited readability

Pros: Great design, two different memory type slots, mp3 player.
Cons: Poor readability and magnification control. PDF files comes out too small to read efficiently.
The Bottom Line:
I am selling mine. Most PDF books I tried cannot be magnified large enough to enable me to read them.
The device is definitely well designed. It is portable, fit into my pants pocket and my coat as well. It takes a little getting used to at first. I like the fact that you can use two different types of memory to add to the capacity of the unit. I have inserted a 2GB SD and an 8GB Sony Memory Pro-Duo inside the memory slots and they functioned flawlessly. The draw back with the device is magnification and illumination ratio. I purchased the device to be able to study on the train and other locations. I therefore used the CDs eBooks that usually comes with my text manuals. What I found out is that although the device can read PDF files, it cannot magnify them large enough to make them readable. I tried different rotation format from vertical to horizontal, it helps a little but still difficult to read. The device does have some magnification control, but the steps from S to M are the only ones functioning in most cases. There is no brightness or darkness control. Unless Sony comes out with a new firmware to solve the magnification issues a lot of people are going to drop them on eBay; it would be otherwise a fine machine.
